Troy Stewart (who goes by the superhero moniker of Tyroc) came from the island of Marzal. This island typically existed in another dimension and would only appear on Earth sporadically for a few years at a time. Tyroc and the other citizens of Marzal were descended from African slaves that had revolted on a slaver ship in the 18th century.
Once they set the slavers adrift, the liberated Africans settled on an island off the coast of the African continent. They were amazed when the air around the island changed and seemed to leave Earth behind! With the resources of Marzal and no threat of outside agitators, these men and women were able to develop an incredibly technologically advanced civilization. An unfortunate side effect, however, was an incredible isolationist thread developing in the culture.
Tyroc first met the Legion of Super-Heroes when they responded to an emergency on Marzal, which was on Earth at the time. Tyroc’s isolationist indoctrination reared its ugly head when the hero tried to stop the Legionnaires from helping in the crisis. Eventually, however, Tyroc recognized the good in the heroes and allowed them to help. They offered him membership in the Legion which he initially declined. However, after several further encounters, Tyroc chose to accept the invitation. Tyroc later returned to Marzal Island to guide his people as the island shifted back into its pocket dimension.
Tyroc is later seen alongside an army of Legionnaires from alternate worlds, times and realities at the Vanishing Point, fighting the Time Trapper.
Currently, Tyroc and a number of other Legionnaires are stranded on modern Earth (their past). After battling Harvest and his minions, they were able to acquire a “time bubble” that allows them to return to their home time. Unfortunately, upon their arrival they find the Earth of the future to be in ruins. Hoping to avert this catastrophe, they return to modern Earth.
