Tyler Dayspring is the son of Nathan and Aliya Summers, born two thousand years in the future. The couple raised Tyler as part of the Askani Clan Chosen, like his father had been, until Stryfe kidnapped him as a young teenager.
Stryfe corrupted the boy’s mind and sent him back to the clan’s home to kidnap Nathan’s friend Dawnsilk. Nathan sought out his son and lost friend and, unfortunately, felt that he had no choice but to shoot his son. This encounter left Dawnsilk with brain damage, as she had been mentally linked with Tyler when he was shot, and left Tyler with a vendetta against his father for shooting him.
Tyler managed to obtain a means of time travel and came to the present, following his father. He created the identity of “Tolliver”, an illegal weapons merchant that always appeared wearing a rubber mask. Tyler used this personality in his crusade to punish everyone that had ever hurt him, first among them being his father. One of his first efforts to this end was hiring his father’s mercenary group, the Six Pack, to go on a mission that brought them into conflict with Stryfe. This mission ended with the Six Pack disbanding and most of the members hating Cable.
When Cable joined the New Mutants and renamed the group X-Force, Tyler set his sights on the group. Tolliver hired Deadpool and Deadpool’s then girlfriend Copycat to kidnap Domino. They succeeded and Copycat infiltrated the group, using her powers to disguise herself as Domino. Copycat was discovered, however, and Cable rescued Domino; in the process Tolliver’s helicopter exploded which led many to assume that Tolliver had died.
Many mercenaries began looking for “Tolliver’s legacy,” which was supposed to be the ultimate weapon. When found, it turned out to be an android from the future named Zero. During this time, Cable returned from a trip to the future and told X-Force that Tyler was actually his son, having previously told them that he was merely an old friend that had joined Stryfe. Cable also learned that Tolliver was a time traveler as well, coming from his own future.
Tyler used the activated Zero to discover the truth about Cable and Stryfe, a fact that was actually unknown to both mutants up until this point. He revealed this information to Cable, who was possessed by Stryfe’s spirit at the time. When Stryfe’s spirit heard that he was actually the clone and Cable was the real Nathan Summers, it was too much for him to bear and Cable was freed with Stryfe’s spirit dissipating.
Later, Tyler adopted the moniker of Genesis and claimed to be the heir of Apocalypse. One of his first actions in this role was to kidnap Wolverine and attempt to transform him into a Horseman of Apocalypse. He tried to erase Wolverine’s personality and re-bond adamantium to his skeleton. Both attempts failed, Wolverine’s mutation changed him into a feral state and the much more bestial Wolverine killed Genesis.
During a near-death experience, Cable believed he met the spirit of his son who claimed he had found peace in the afterlife. Later, when Cable created Providence Island, he named the sports arena “The Tyler Dayspring Stadium” in his honor.
