Dr. Doris Zeul suffered from a fatal blood disease. Determined to live, she kidnaps Wonder Woman and plans to place her “life-essence” in Wonder Woman’s body using a strange device of her own design. The process is interrupted by Wonder Girl and Dr. Zeul ends up being transferred into a test gorilla named Giganta. With her human body gone beyond recover, Zeul abducts a circus strong woman named Olga with mysterious size-changing powers in a coma. Zeul uses her machine again to transfer her mind into Olga’s body. Whether because of her disease, the machine, or the process, Zeul becomes a super-villainess using the name Giganta.

Giganta goes on to ally herself with several villain groups, including Villainy Inc. and Queen Clea, as well as the Secret Society of Super Villains. She battles Wonder Woman as well as the Doom Patrol with these groups. At first, it appears that her intelligence decreases as her size increases but over time, she manages to overcome this limitation.

Giganta joins Cheetah and Doctor Psycho in a search for the “real” Wonder Woman, battling Donna Troy (who had assumed the identity of Wonder Woman at the time), Wonder Girl, Robin and eventually the “real” Wonder Woman, though none of them recognized her as federal agent Diana Prince. Hercules also battles the trio, felling the giantess.

Giganta goes on to become a teacher at Ryan Choi’s Ivy Town University, forced to do so by M’Nagalah, the “cancer god.” She is sent to seduce and capture Choi, managing the feat by swallowing him alive when he was in miniature form. After being freed of M’Nagalah’s control, thanks in part to the Atom, Zeul seems to want to try and turn over a new leaf. As a result, she keeps her position and approaches Choi for a second date. Before the date, Wonder Woman approaches Choi and asks him to wear a wire. After Zeul admits that she truly wants to reform, she is informed that Ryan was wearing a wire. Enraged, Zeul grows to giant size and rips smashes through the roof of the restaurant to find Wonder Woman and Ryan speaking. Unbeknownst to Zeul, Ryan had removed the wire. Wonder Woman and Giganta battle with Wonder Woman besting Giganta only for the Atom to hold Wonder Woman back. Once the two heroes calm down, they look to find that Zeul has disappeared.

Giganta goes on to join the new Injustice League and then becomes a member of Libra’s Secret Society of Super Villains. When Darkseid takes over Earth with the Anti-Life Equation, Giganta is given the name of Gigantrix and becomes one of the new Female Furies alongside Wonder Woman, Batwoman and Catwoman. Possessed by the spirit of the fury Stompa, she is freed when Supergirl smashes the skull and crossbones mask and removes it from her face.
Giganta seems to have been able to continue a relationship with Ryan Choi and genuinely try to reform. She even goes so far as to help Wonder Woman on a mission, though the hero had attacked Zeul on her way to a date with her boyfriend.

Giganta is eventually hired as one of the members of Bane’s Secret Six. Also on the team was Dwarfstar who, unbeknownst to Giganta, had hired Deathstroke and his Titans to kill Choi. After a particularly bad mission, Waller reveals to Giganta Dwarfstar’s involvement in Choi’s murder. Giganta responds to this by luring Dwarfstar to her room with promises of sex. Once inside, Giganta strips him of his belt, the source of his power, and beats him mercilessly. She binds and gags Dwarfstar, promising to keep him alive so that she can prolong his pain and suffering.

Giganta becomes a member of the Secret Society during the CSA’s conquering of Earth. She, along with Vandal Savage and Signalman track down Pandora, only for Pandora to best Giganta.
