Abra Kadabra hails from the 64th century, when science has advanced so far that stage magic no longer holds any appeal for the masses. Longing for a career as a working magician, he goes back in time to the modern day after stealing a time machine. He uses a hypnotic device that forces people to clap on his magic audiences. Not receiving the attention and accolades he expected, he begins to involve himself in more important events, which brings him into conflict with the Flash. Abra is in the commission of a crime when the Flash tries to stop him. Abra uses the clapping device on Flash and is able to escape.

Abra then challenges Flash to a fight at the theatre in which he was performing. Abra is able to send Flash into space but Flash is able to change the course of the land mass he was on and return to earth. When he returns, he finds that Kadabra had taken the costume he had left behind and is able to follow the speed force impulses the costume gives off and catch the criminal.

Kadabra makes another hypnotic device out of pots and pans and uses it to get a pardon from the Governor. Kadabra decides to put on a puppet show called Captain Cream-Puff and puts out posters advertising the show. When the Flash passes one such poster, it transforms him into a puppet. Abra uses Flash in the performance and has Captain Cream-Puff defeat him. Eventually, Flash is able to partially restore himself and then reverse Kadabra’s ray. Once he is fully human he again defeats and captures Kadabra.

Eventually, during a confrontation with Flash, Abra’s technology is damaged which transforms him into a ghost like form. After he is returned to normal, a bounty under from the 64th century captures him and takes him home to serve a death sentence. The Flash saves him from this fate and returns him to the 21st century. Once returned, Abra gives up his technological tricks and fools five criminals into selling their souls to Neron so that he can gain truly magical powers. He then goes on to kidnap Linda Park, the would be wife of Wally West (the successor of the Flash that Abra originally fought), and erases her from history. Walter West, Wally’s counterpart from another dimension, helps to defeat Abra.

He is recruited by Inertia to kill the then current Flash, Bart Allen. Inertia is defeated but Abra and the other Rogues successfully beat Bart to death, though not before Abra realizes this Flash is younger than the one they are used to dealing with. Abra goes on to join Libra’s Secret Society of Super Villains.
