Milos Masaryk was a Soviet intelligence agent until he was charged with tracking down the defector, the original Crimson Dynamo. To this end, Milos begins wearing technology designed by the Dynamo and takes on the codename “Unicorn.” He battles Iron Man after being caught spying on Star Industries. After this initial counter, the Unicorn would go on to have a long term criminal career, battling such heroes as the Fantastic Four, Iron Man, Cyclops and Iceman, the X-Men (while allied with Count Nefaria).
Eventually, Unicorn undergoes an advanced experimental process that attempts to augment his powers. Though the process is successful, it also leaves him with a dangerous side effect: “accelerated cellular deterioration.” Both the Red Ghost and Mandarin manipulate Unicorn with the promise of a cure, only to see the villain defeated by Iron Man with his only reward being the worsening of the ex-Soviet’s condition.
The Titanium Man, under the alias “The Other,” pits the Unicorn against Iron Man once again. This time, however, Iron Man is able to capture Milos just as he slips into a coma. Iron Man immediately takes the villain to the Avengers Mansion where Yellowjacket is able to cure Unicorn of his disease. However, the cure drives Unicorn insane and after an unfortunate accident involving the robot Arsenal, Milos is placed in stasis until his sanity can be restored.
During a fire some months later, Milos is wakened from his stasis and retakes his Unicorn identity. His mind still ravaged, he believes the Other was real and decides to walk back to the Soviet Union. Iron Man is too weak to stop the villain as the Unicorn walks into the Atlantic Ocean and seemingly drowns.
Unicorn is later revived by the all powerful Beyonder for the purpose of fighting with a new Lethal Legion. Unicorn is later recruited by Spymaster to attack Star Tower during Thanos’ siege of Earth.
