“Glob” Herman comes from a house hold were mutants were hated and disparaged. When his powers manifest and result in him becoming a large glob of living wax that allows his internal organs and skeleton to be seen by the world, he and his father are horrified. Glob receives abuse from his father for years until the day that Charles Xavier reveals to the world that he is a mutant. On that day, Glob’s mother enrolls him in the Xavier Institute in order to get him away from his father.
After spending some time there, Glob joins the Omega Gang that believes Magneto was right. The Omega Gang attacks humans that they believe participated in a hate crime against a mutant as well as killing a group of U-Men. During the riot at the Institute, Glob has another member of the gang light him on fire and goes on to terrorize a number of humans before being stopped by the X-Men. The attack almost kills Glob, burning away a large portion of his living wax, and after order is restored he is sent to help the needy in Africa.
After the X-Men’s schism, Glob joins the Jean Grey School. He is disillusioned with Wolverine’s teaching style on a field trip to the Savage Land. Sauron offers to help Glob leave the X-Men which, after the intervention of Wolverine’s time traveling brother, he does. Glob becomes a student of the newly formed Hellfire Academy. Once the Hellfire Academy falls into disrepair, Glob is allowed to rejoin the X-Academy.
He is part of a class trip to New York where the students get to patrol with Spider-Man. Glob ends up transformed into a dinosaur but ultimately recovers. The class is later kidnapped by Mojo before being rescued. Glob begins working more and more on humanitarian missions and is promoted to full X-Men status after helping protect civilians from a demonic invasion. One of his first missions as a member of the team is to retrieve six hundred mutant embryos. The team and embryos are sent far into the future where Apocalypse rules. The team lives in this future for a year before being rescued and returned to the present.
Glob is among the X-Men that oppose X-Man’s attempt to remake the world in his image. X-Man, not wanting to kill his enemies, instead sends them all to another reality created with the help of a Life Seed. In this reality, the Earth is only inhabited by mutants and relationships are strongly discouraged to the point of being borderline illegal. In this reality, Glob is a student at the Summers Insitute as part of the agricultural studies program. Here he cares for a small group of chickens that he has named Hope, Logan and Scott. Some of the other students tease him that he has no friends over than those three chickens.
Glob is invited to a study group that notices a nearby fire. While they all go to help, Glob notices that his wax skin is burned off by the fire and goes home, afraid for his life. Hisako, who is also part of the group, later comes to Glob’s room to tell him that Department X was at the fire and has been arresting students. She worries that there is a massive conspiracy going on. Soon, the world is restored and the House of X is born.
After Krakoa is opened as the mutant homeland, Glob is among the first arrivals. Here he joins the New Mutants and continues to enjoy taking care of the live stock and cooking. He joins Armor on a trip to Pilger, Nebraska to visit Beak, Angel and their children. Unfortunately, a cartel ambushes the group at Beak’s family farm after finding out their location from the anti-mutant tracking site DOX. Both of Beak’s parents are killed as a result of this confrontation and Beak is severely injured. Later, when Magik discovers the location of DOX’s offices, she invites Glob along to help send a message. Glob ends up severely injuring the founder and editor of DOX and would have killed him if not for Magik’s intervention. Soon after, he confides in her about his abusive home life and why he’s worked so hard to be a better mutant.
