Lemar Hoskins begins his life in Chicago, Illinois. When he comes of age, he joins the US Army and meets John Walker, Hector Lennox and Jerome Johnson. After some time in the service, the four are chosen by the Power Broker and given superhuman strength. When Walker becomes the Super-Patriot, Lemar forms the Bold Urban Commandos with the others. The group stages a fake attack on the Super-Patriot for publicity.

When Walker is chosen to become the new Captain America, Hoskins is the only one allowed to work with him. He temporarily adopts the moniker of Bucky, after Steve’s friend and partner during World War II, and undergoes rigorous training to be ready for the task. After the pair work together for a while, Hoskins realizes that the tribute to Barnes is too close to an old slave owner term. He adopts the more heroic Battlestar and has a new costume made as well as wielding a shield based on Captain America’s original triangle shield.

Together with Captain America, Battlestar battles Quill and the Resistants as well as Demolition Man. Battlestar has to watch Walker be captured by Flag-Smasher and enlists Steve Rogers’ help in rescuing Walker from ULTIMATUM. After a faked assassination of John Walker, that Battlestar believes is real, he resigns from the Commission.

Battlestar goes on to adventure alone, meeting and helping the Falcon against the Serpent Society. After learning that Walker is alive and acting as the US Agent, the old friends come to blows. Battlestar is captured as part of a plan to experiment on old clients of the Power Broker. During these events, he reconciles with Walker.

Lemar retires from Federal service and returns homes, joining the Wild Pack for a while. During the Superhero Civil War, Battlestar is among those that oppose registration. His group of allies is attacked and captured by a group of SHIELD agents that injure his back badly during the arrest. While in the Negative Zone prison, he receives improper medical care. Despite all of this, when he is freed by Captain America’s forces, Battlestar fights in the final confrontation.

After healing from his injuries, Battlestar provides security for Project Pegasus. He sees the zombie invasion from another Earth as well as the return of Jack of Hearts. He is among the heroes that raid another Earth infested by Nazi Zombies, alongside Dum-Dum Dugan and Howard the Duck.

Battlestar later wrestles D-Man in a charity Unlimited Class Wrestling Federation event. The two heroes team up when the organizer of the event is found attempting to steal the charity donations.
