Jamie is the older sibling of the twins Brian and Elisabeth Braddock. Because he is nearly ten years their senior, he has a relatively isolated and lonely childhood. Once he reaches adulthood he makes a name for himself as a financial genius as well as being a successful race car driver. Braddock Industries flourishes under his leadership.
Jamie eventually learns of his brother’s double life as Captain Britain and even helps him on a few times. Jamie’s days of heroism are short lived, however, as he begins to engage in larger and larger bets, his debts compounding ever higher. This leads him down a dark path, leading to his involvement in petty crimes and eventually robbery, murder and even the slave trade. Jamie is eventually kidnapped and punished for these crimes by Doctor Crocodile a scientist from Africa and former RCX agent.
This punishment leads to Jamie’s mind fracturing. As a result, Jamie believes that reality is nothing more than a dream. This is a dangerous development, as the punishments also activate his latent mutant power: the ability to warp reality. Though Jamie’s powers are nearly limitless, he is still imprisoned by Doctor Crocodile. Sat-Yr-9 hires Technet to free him in hopes that she can put his powers to use.
When Technet confronts Crocodile, the scientist reveals Jamie’s crimes to them. The group decides to attack Jamie and potentially kill him for his crimes but he is able to easily defeat them and erase their memories. Confident in his abilities, he transforms the doctor into an actual crocodile and leaves with Sat. They journey to his family home where he changes everything back to how he remembers it from his childhood, even resurrecting his nanny, Emma Collins.
Jamie begins to wreak havoc in the London criminal underworld before joining in an attack against the superhero team Excalibur, which his brother is currently a member of. Jamie is able to capture Excalibur and tortures them with his powers until his sister Betsy is able to break free and use her psy-blade to put him into a coma. He is eventually left on Muir Island where he is cared for.
Jamie eventually reappears in full health to help his brother and sister defend Otherworld from a powerful sorcerer known as The Goat. The siblings eventually learn that The Goat is actually a future version of Jamie intent on consuming the Multiverse. Feeling she has no alternative, Betsy forces Brian to break Jamie’s neck. This kills Jamie and wipes the Goat from existence, ending the threat.
Jamie is again resurrected by a group of magicians that pledge themselves to his cause. He attempts to take the Space Stone from Black Widow only for the Avenger to defeat and kill him with the help of Merlin.
After the establishment of the mutant nation of Krakoa, Jamie is resurrected with a healed mind. After Morgan La Fey corrupts Brian Braddock into becoming a Dark Captain Britain, the new Exaclibur is dispatched to stop her. Betsy, as the new Captain Britain, journeys to Otherworld alongside Apocalypse. After a battle of champions, Apocalypse proposes that Jamie Braddock be made the new Monarch of Otherworld.
