Linda Carter is the daughter of a doctor and grows up in Allentown, New York. When she comes of age, she moves to New York City and soon meets and moves in with Christine Palmer and Georgia Jenkins. While studying to become a nurse she meets and falls in love with wealthy businessman, Marshall Michaels. Their relationship ends when Marshall gives her an ultimatum: marry him or continue as a nurse.
Linda chooses her career.
While working primarily as a nurse, Linda also shows promising detective skills when she exposes an incompetent surgeon and saves a patient from a hitman. At some point over the years in New York City, Linda is saved by an unknown masked vigilante. She is so moved by the event that she decides to begin offering medical treatment to heroes free of charge. She adopts the moniker of “Night Nurse” to protect her legitimate practice. She forms a super-hero emergency clinic in Chinatown.
As the Night Nurse, Linda helps Daredevil after his defeat by members of the Yakuza. She becomes a trusted friend of Daredevil, Dr. Strange, Captain America, Luke Cage and Iron Fist. Night Nurse and Dr. Strange even date for a while. Night Nurse joins Captain America’s resistance during the superhero civil war. After Elektra escapes from months of torture at the hands of the Skrulls, she is brought to Night Nurse by Foggy Nelson. Elektra and Carter grow close during the recuperation time. When Firestar is diagnosed with cancer, Nigh Nurse administers her chemotherapy.
