Darkseid decides to destroy all of Earth’s heroes by sending a “techno-seed” into the heart of a fusion generator being tested at STAR labs. After the seed implants itself, the generator explodes and releases the flaming monstrosity known as Brimstone. Brimstone’s consciousness seems to spring out of nothing and he declares himself an avenging angel, sent to destroy false gods and graven idols. In his rampage he battles Firestorm, the Justice League and Cosmic Boy.

In trying to find his weakness, it is discovered that Brimstone is simply a sentient ball of super heated hydrogen plasma given form via magnetic fields. The recently reactivated Suicide Squad is tasked with stopping the monster. Deadshot uses an experimental laser rifle to penetrate Brimstone’s magnetic fields and destroy the techno seed, but not before Brimstone can kill Blockbuster. As he “dies,” Brimstone explodes.

Brimstone seemingly regenerates several other times over the years. He is among the villains that President Luthor sends after Batman and Superman. He is also infected by Starro and sent to destroy a nuclear power plant in California. Wonder Girl and Supergirl battle him together with Supergirl throwing him into the Earth’s orbit, where he remains in a dormant state.
